Before you begin

Before your first class

  • What to wear. Whatever you feel comfortable in. Clothes that let you move and keep cool work well: shorts or leggings and a t-shirt or vest.
  • Empty stomach. Empty your bowels and bladder, take a shower, then step on the mat. If practising in the afternoon or evening, no food for 3 to 4 hours before.
  • Breathe through the nose. Keep the mouth closed and use deep Ujjayi breathing.
  • Do not over-stretch. If you are a beginner, respect your body. There is a thin line between flexibility and injury.
  • Finish in Shavasana. Lie down for 10 to 15 minutes after the practice.
