Before you start
What are the benefits of Ashtanga Yoga?
Increase in breath awareness, flexibility, focus, balance, strength, overall well being, and so much more. Yoga is not an objective science where you can observe from outside. Yoga is subjective and can only be experienced.
My body is stiff, I am not that flexible, I don't think I can do difficult poses, can I still practice yoga?
Yes! Don't worry if you can't touch your toes. As long as you are breathing, you can practice yoga. The beauty of a Mysore-style class is that you will progress at a pace that suits you and your body, and over time you will become stronger and more flexible. You don't know what you are capable of unless you try.
What is the right age to learn Yoga?
Anyone above the age of 8 can practice Yoga. Young, old, very old, sick, all can practice, only lazy people can't practice Ashtanga Yoga :)
What should I wear to my first class?
You can wear whatever you feel comfortable in. You might find it helpful to wear clothes that allow you to move comfortably and keep cool. Shorts or leggings and a t-shirt or vest work well.

What time zone are the open slots shown in?
The booking page shows every open slot in your own time zone, with the zone name, so you can pick a time that works where you live.

What is the difference between Mysore style and a led class?
In a Mysore-style class you practise the asana sequence at your own pace, and everyone is on their own sequence. The teacher knows which student is doing which asana and keeps correcting as needed. In a led class the teacher gives the count and instructions, and the entire class follows the sequence together. More on both styles.
How often should I practise?
Ashtanga yoga is a discipline for life. It’s six days in a week practice.
Should I eat before class?
Empty your bowels and bladder, take a shower, and then step on the mat to begin your morning practice. If practicing in the evening or afternoon, no food for 3-4 hours prior to practice. After practice, eat light food, like juicy fruit or vegetable juice.
Can I practise during my period?
During ladies’ holidays (menstrual cycle), don’t practice for the first 3 days. No inversions on 4th and 5th day.
What happens on a moon day?
Moondays are rest days due to extreme high and low energies. No practice on Moondays. There are no classes on moon days.
